Juliet Marion Hulme aka Anne Perry

Anne Perry was born Juliet Marion Hulme on October 18, 1938. She was born in Blackheath, London. At a very early age she was sent away from her family because of tuberculosis and did not get back with her family until she was 13 years old. Before her sixteenth birthday her parents were splitting up and Juliet wanted to be with her father. At that time Juliet and a friend devised a way to get rid of her friends mother. The had a simple plan but it did not work out and instead they brutally murdered her friends mother. After a trial both girls were found guilty and the death penalty might have been a factor if they had been older. They both served approximately five years, were released and that was the last time they saw or talked to each other.

After her release Juliet Hulme changed her name to Anne Perry and began writing under that name.

In 1979, at the age of 40, Ann Perry's first novel, Cater Street Hangman was published. Her first book was a detective novel with the feature character of Thomas Pitt. Since that time she has completed twenty five books in this particular series.

In 1990 she began another series which featured the main character of William Monk as a private investigator. She has completed sixteen novels in this series.

She has also written five novels in her World War I series and five in a Christmas series along with several short stories.

Many of her books have been on the New York Times Bestseller list and in 2000 she received the Edgar Award for a short story.
