John Grisham was born in Jonesboro, Arkansas. He is the second oldest of five children. His family moved frequently and finally settled in Southaven, Mississippi. John graduated from Southaven High School where he played football but was actually more of a studious type and an avid reader. He then attended college in Mississippi where he got his Bachelor’s in Science and went on to study tax law. Mid stream John changed his focus and began studying criminal law and civil litigation. This would prove to be a major plus for his future.
After graduating, John went to work at a small town law firm in Southaven where he worked for nearly ten years. During this time he had many experiences in and out of the court room. Some cases seemed to strike a cord with John and he published his first book in 1987 based on suit that went through his firm. That book was called A Time to Kill. While the main idea of the case was used, the book was written on how things may have turned out if other actions were taken by the people involved in the case.
John has one of the highest ratings for selling the most books in their first printing and has been on the number one best sellers list for a long time. Some of John’s greatest books are the Runaway Jury and The Street Lawyer. His books have been mainly focused on his legal experiences and his studies have greatly helped in his writing career.
