One of the best novels ever written is "And Then There Were None" by Agatha Christie. She is one of the best-selling authors of all time.
Agatha Christie never attended school as a child. She was born Agatha May Clarissa Miller in 1890 in Devon, England. Although she never attended school, she was well educated by tutors and a governess at home. She was very shy and often used music to express her feelings. Later, she turned to writing. She married Archie Christie at the age of 24. He was a pilot in World War I, and, while he was away, she worked as a nurse. She came up with the idea of writing a detective novel while working in a hospital. It took her a year to write her first novel, and it wasn’t published until five years later. One of her most lovable and famous characters, Hercule Poirot, was first introduced in her novel, “The Mysterious Affair at Styles.” She wrote a total of 30 novels that featured this tidy little man. Her most popular novels that featured Hercule Poirot were "Murder on the Orient Express" and "Death on the Nile." Another one of her famous characters was Miss Jane Marple. This character was a total opposite of Hercule Poirot, and speculation is that it’s because her husband left her in 1926 for another woman, and four years later she found love and happiness with Max Mallowan. Miss Jane Marple was featured in 12 novels.
Agatha Christie was awarded the highest honor of Dame of the British Empire. She wrote over 80 detective novels, sold over two billion books worldwide and has been translated into over 45 languages. The Guinness Book of World Records has called her the best-selling writer of books of all time, as well as the best-selling writer of any kind.
